Funerals, Memorial Services, and Celebrations of Life

Nothing is more humbling or profound for me as an Independent Celebrant than to preside over a Funeral, Memorial Service, or the Celebration of Life for someone who has passed away. Because of my years as a Methodist Minister, I have a lot of experience with presiding over funerals.

If you choose me as your Celebrant, I will meet with you and any other close friends or family on at least one occasion, either via Zoom or a visit to the family home—whichever is most convenient. I will ask lots of questions, listen carefully, and really make an effort to get to know your loved one and see them through your eyes.

This meeting would also serve as a planning session, where we would discuss music choices, readings, and the general 'Order of Service' for your loved one's Funeral, Memorial Service, or Celebration of Life.  You may be wondering what the difference is between these three names. A Funeral is what we generally call a service that happens with your loved one's body or ashes present, while a Memorial Service or Celebration of Life is usually held without the presence of the body. However, it's also a matter of language preference, and I will, of course, use whatever language feels right for you.

I think that it's important to mention that I am in recovery through a twelve step programme, which means that I am very comfortable with those who identify as "spiritual but not religious," as well as those who are atheists. My involvement in recovery also means that I handle cases of accidental death and suicide with a great deal of empathy, compassion, and sensitivity.

Because I am an Independent Celebrant, I am not bound to any particular style of ceremony, and I am quite flexible, so there are very few limits as to the choices you can make for your loved one's service. Again, I am able to offer a service that is fairly traditionally Christian (Methodist), a service that is completely non-religious, or anywhere in between.

I will also communicate directly with the Funeral Director regarding the Order of Service, as well as payment of my fee, so there is no need for you to worry about those details. When it comes to locations, I primarily officiate services in the Newport, Cardiff, and Bristol areas, but I am willing to travel further afield provided that you cover costs of travel and lodging (if necessary).

Please fill out the contact form below if you have any queries, or to book in a particular date, and I will be in touch as soon as possible.
