My name is Rachel Frank, and I am a Celebrant registered with the Association of Independent Celebrants (you can see my certificate of registration here). I am based in South Wales, and I am the founder of My Solemn Vow.

I first discovered a passion for being a celebrant in my work as a Methodist Minister, as I always felt incredibly privileged to play a role in some of the most important and sacred moments in people's lives. Although am still an ordained Methodist Minister, I am fully comfortable doing services anywhere on the religious spectrum: from completely religious, to completely non-religious, and even interfaith.

I was born and raised in the Eastern United States, where I earned a Bachelors Degree, as well as a Master of Divinity Degree. I emigrated to the UK in 2013, first as a Student at Bristol University, where I earned a Master of Philosophy in Religious Studies. This is where I met my husband, Tom, who was studying Japanese Religions in the same programme at the time. In 2014, I began working as a Methodist Minister in Birmingham, then moved to Chepstow in 2019, and finally to Newport in 2022. My husband and I were married in an interfaith ceremony—Christian and Buddhist—in August, 2021 (after postponing twice due to Covid). We also have a dog we love tremendously, named Demi.

Obviously, as a minister, I have had a lot of experience officiating weddings and funerals, but also in working closely with people, both in the most joyful and in the most sorrowful times of their lives. The reason I am an Independent Celebrant is that it means everything to me to craft a service worthy of the life that a person has lived, or worthy of the love two people share. It is humbling work and and awesome responsibility that I truly take to heart. I would feel honoured to walk alongside you in these hallowed moments of life.

Because I'm an ordained minister, you may be wondering whether or not I'm LGBTQ+ friendly, and the answer to that is a resounding YES! I have believed that love is love and that all people are equal for all of my time as a Minister, and I am still committed to that as a Celebrant.

I would be happy to discuss this further with you if you have any concerns or questions when it comes to where I stand, but please also be assured that where I stand is firmly in the LGBTQ+ friendly category!

Why 'My Solemn Vow'?

For me, one of the most profound moments in a wedding is when the people getting married say the words, "This is my solemn vow."  I have felt this way for as long as I can remember, and it is still moving to me every time I hear those words, particularly when I said them at my own wedding. However, this phrase also has a deeper meaning to me because I take what I do very seriously. This name represents my promise to every person, couple, or family with whom I work that I will collaborate closely with you to create a service or ceremony that will respect your beliefs and honour and celebrate your loved one or your relationship. This is My Solemn Vow.
